A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER

If you are a property owner in Pentwater Township, you will receive a tax bill in the mail twice a year.  The summer bill is mailed July 1, and collects the state education tax and the county allocated millage.

The winter tax bill represents operational costs for the Township, and Pentwater's portion for other taxing entities, such as the library and other county services and offices, fire coverage, etc.  This portion of your tax bill is mailed December 1.  Contact Janice or her deputy Jackie Stevens with questions.

Taxpayers that have a Mortgage company or Bank paying their taxes, your tax notice will  be sent to the name on the bill.   If contacted by your Mortgage company or Bank, the Treasurers office will send the AMOUNT of the taxes due.

Please use the drop box located on the outside of the front of the Community Building for tax payments made after hours.

Did you know?  Just as it is an individual's responsibility to know that their Federal income taxes are due each year by April 15th, it is also their responsibility to know when their property taxes are due.  Township Property taxes are due every year on SEPTEMBER 14  and FEBRUARY 14.  This does not change.  (If the 14th falls on a weekend or holiday, then taxes are due on the first business day that follows; this is the only exception.)

If you are a new homeowner, or if you have recently paid off your mortgage where your taxes were escrowed, you are now responsible for paying your own property taxes.  Please mark the dates on your calendar so you do not forget.

The Treasurer's office makes a diligent effort to be sure all tax bills are mailed to the proper address.  Even so, each year we encounter a few people who do not receive their tax statements.  Failure to receive your tax bill does not change your responsibility to pay the taxes on time.  If you are not receiving your tax bills, please contact the Treasurer's office.  We will be glad to verify your mailing address, or answer other questions you may have.
